Unvention

How I do love that term of Elizabeth Zimmerman's, and how appropriate it feels for the thought that popped into my head the other day.

All the time I have been knitting socks and grafting the toes, I have been less that satisfied with the result - they always had "ears" instead of a nicely rounded pair of corners. It occurred to me to try this. When grafting the stitches, work the first and last two stitches on each of the needles as one. So, front needle, k2tog, slip off, yarn through purlwise, back needle, p2tog, slip off, yarn through knitwise, carry on across, 1 stitch at a time, then do the same procedure when there ar two stitches left on each needle.

It works. I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned - just as I don't recall seeing the problem it solves ever being mentioned, but I am rather pleased with myself.
